PrEP for Cisgender Women
This Discussion Panel's primary goal is to discuss HIV PrEP use and barriers among cisgender women, pregnant people, and people who are breastfeeding or chestfeeding. After reviewing the data to support the two HIV PrEP options for cisgender women, panelists discuss administrative processes and barriers to implement PrEP in their clinics. They discuss why cisgender pregnant women are more at risk for HIV acquisition and which HIV PrEP medication is recommended. Panelists then discuss factors which may contribute to the vast underutilization of HIV PrEP in cisgender women. Each panelist then provides updates on recent, current, and future HIV PrEP studies within these populations. Finally, they provide recommendations to healthcare workers who serve these populations.
