HIV PrEP for Transgender and Gender Diverse People
Kevin L. Ard, MD, MPH discusses HIV epidemiology and HIV PrEP uptake among transgender and gender-diverse people and three key HIV PrEP studies that included transgender people. He explores the four key considerations when selecting a medication for HIV PrEP and addresses potential interactions between gender-affirming hormones and HIV PrEP medications. He then discusses how to embed HIV PrEP within gender-affirming care which may increase access and HIV PrEP uptake.
